The NESS SEA (STEM Education Ambassador) AmeriCorps program uses national service to engage students in STEM-based ocean adventure learning. New England Science & Sailing SEA AmeriCorps members serve to provide students with additional support, mentoring and tutoring during the academic school day. They also design and implement STEM-based, extended learning and summer programs utilizing marine science, adventure sports, and sailing as the educational platform.
Grant Deliverables: The New England Science & Sailing Foundation will have 10 AmeriCorps members who will provide STEM-based programs, classroom and field support, and social-emotional learning support to students in grades pre-K through 12 in Connecticut with a primary focus in Groton, New London, Norwich and Waterford. New England Science & Sailing SEA AmeriCorps members serve to provide students with additional support, mentoring and tutoring during the academic school day. They also design and implement STEM-based, extended learning and summer programs utilizing marine science, adventure sports, and sailing as the educational platform. At the end of the program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for 200 students' improved academic engagement and social-emotional skills growth.
