NESS SEA AmeriCorps

Inspire and empower students through ocean-based experiential learning.

The NESS SEA (STEM Education Ambassador) AmeriCorps program uses national service to engage students in STEM-based ocean adventure learning. New England Science & Sailing SEA AmeriCorps members serve to provide students with additional support and mentoring during the academic school day. They also design and implement STEM-based, extended learning and summer programs utilizing marine science, adventure sports, and sailing as the educational platform.

AmeriCorps members serve with purpose at NESS, teaching experiential STEM lessons and mentoring students to build social and emotional skills.

Since 2014, NESS SEA AmeriCorps members have provided classroom and community support by engaging learners through hands-on programs, inspiring students to embrace the ocean, take on new challenges, and become positive environmental stewards. The New England Science & Sailing Foundation will have 10 AmeriCorps members who will provide STEM-based programs, classroom and field support, and social-emotional learning support to students in grades K through 12 in Connecticut with a primary focus in New London, Windham, and Middlesex counties. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for students' improved academic engagement and social-emotional skills growth.
